One article that caught my attention today was titled Passport checks ‘hitting shipping industry’ . It appears the UK have had some policy changes that has everyone disembarking a cruise ship at a port of call in the UK undergoing a full passport check. This means that if you are on a ship that has a port of call for a half or full day in the UK you will have to go through passport control when you leave the ship before you can enjoy your day of sightseeing, shopping, shore excursion, etc.
Until the British Government relaxes this new regulation it means that you will need to take the delay of leaving the ship into account when planning a shore excursion, tour, etc on any UK ports of call. So far none of the cruise lines have adjusted their itineraries or threatened to pull out of the UK ports of call.
Does this change mean that travelers will avoid sailings that include UK ports of call? Who knows. It is too early to tell what impact this will have, but it is something my clients have been made aware of and will continue to be made aware of until there is some change in this regulation.
